Waterlogged

Back from our trip to Vermont and dealing with the flood. Friday night, as we drove to NH in the rain, we heard that there was a leak from the upstairs bathroom. After panicked calls and texts and the intervention of Todd, the lead was stopped, buckets and towels were put in place and we went off to VT. Now we're back, cleaning and drying things and trying to figure out what our next steps are with the insurance company and remediation plans. Since it was a long holiday weekend, it's hard to get anyone to respond. That is more stressful than the damage itself!

Back to the details of our trip. We went on to Quechee, staying in a Quality Inn with two double beds. Simple and clean enough. We walked over to the gorge in the rain and explored some trails. It was awesome to be in the green, misty trees and hills. We had eaten burritos in the car, so we didn't need dinner. We watched Black Panther and went to bed. In the morning, we had some hotel breakfast, then went to visit the ALPACAS in the rain. They were charming and lifted our spirits. Then we drove to The Skinny Pancake in Woodstock and ate crepes in a tent. Delicious! The rain let up a bit and we walked around Woodstock and visited the covered bridge (Insta op!) and checked out a store. We got back in the car and drove to the Green Mountain Suites in Burlington. Our room had a king bed in one room and a fold out couch in the other. It also had a fireplace, which was lovely. We headed downtown for our reservation at Revolution Kitchen. Because of the weather, they were serving people inside only. We had our first meal in a restaurant since Feb '20. It was delicious. I had the buffalo cauliflower tacos. After dinner, we walked around Church Street and went to B&J's (of course). Sigal took lots of photos. It was nice to be with people again. We decided not to go the fireworks on the lake, as we were tired and the weather was iffy. We went back to the room to watch the Harry Potter marathon by the fire. In the morning, we hiked in Red Rocks park, out to see the lake and the cliffs that we MUST NOT jump from. We went to the excellent August First for lunch of banh mi and avocado toast. It's a great food town for us. Then we went to North Beach for kayaking. There was a big beach party going which was loud and resulted in a lot of drunk 20-somethings in very small bathing suits. We had fun in the kayaks, especially Sigal, and then sat on the beach and had cremees. After that we headed into town and had pizza at Pete's, sitting at a table on the street. But the day was not done! We drove to Colchester to see the fireworks in a ball field. Walking through the woods with hundreds of other folks with our chairs. It was wonderful to sit outside at night like that and share in the magic of the colors and booms and sparkles in the sky. Then back to the hotel for more HP and bed. Monday we packed up and went to Meyer's bagels to get some food and then sat at Oakledge park for a picnic and last last view. On the way home we stopped to visit the alpacas again (still cute) and then the long drive down to the Bay state. After assessing the damage, we went to Pho Lemongrass and sat outside for dinner. We had a call with Honey earlier in the day. I was great to see her but we missed her on the trip.

And that brings me to now. Sitting back at home, back online. It was very relaxing to be away and back in the world. If we didn't have this water damage to deal with, I would feel quite happy and content. Thank the G-ds that we have insurance!
