We're staying at a new place in Eastham on Eldia Way. West of where we have been residing. It's a nice big and cozy house in the woods. We had Thanksgiving dinner last night indoors with almost the whole family. The food all worked out: Tofurkey and roast veg, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, candied sweet potatoes, roasted squash, green bean casserole, crescent rolls, mac and cheese. Apple and pumpkin pie. Apple filling was good but crust was tough. Pumpkin was great. There were enough chairs and cups and silverware. Everyone was civil and in good spirits. We watched Shrek and lazed about. Cleaned up. It was a success, I think. Violet was very happy to be the host, taking coats, setting up the cheese tray, getting drinks. It's a lesson I haven't been able to teach at home. I walked in the morning around the neighborhood, then we all went out to Nauset Light Beach. Heavy surf and much of the beach is gone, such that the cliffs are at serious risk. DH rode out to Wellfleet which he's doing again right now. We'll host everyone again tonight for BIL birthday. (One thing to note in case I read this next year: the Orleans Stop and Shop is open until 10 PM and fully stocked!) This morning I went to First Encounter for a bit then to the Superette. It's nice to be on the other side of Thanksgiving. The house is nice. It all worked out. Next time be hopeful! Now if we can just make it across for sunset...

Just reading my last post. It was a challenging week and we managed about half of the planned activities, but let us not forget the successes. We've had two good days. Friday was Barbie and yesterday we went to Nantasket. It was wonderful to see the ocean again. I didn't swim but next time I will. Going to the beach makes it feel like a very long day. Just getting out of my bubble makes it seem a bigger span of time. I walked at Jamaica Pond yesterday and finished The Mirror and the Light. What a book. I need to find another audio companion. Nonfiction? Dostoevsky? Back to podcasts?

Beautiful, clear weather after rain and smoke. It lifts the spirit. Must get back to the mat to stretch the legs and hold my strength.

We did it, dear reader. We went to see Much Ado on the Common. As the sun set, the day cooled and we were able to enjoy the show. It was nice to be in an audience, hearing the laughs at the familiar lines. People cheered and clapped and were very involved. The time frame and the gender-swapped characters didn't do much for the piece, but it was enjoyable. And free! So nice to be out on the town.

I slept late Sunday and didn't walk. We did some cleaning and then we went to Nantasket. A blisteringly hot day, and the water was cold. Wonderful to be there and we drove home cool and content. We watched the finale of Stranger Things, which was flawed but satisfying. I could easily have cut 30 minutes out of that thing. I stayed up late to finish Bridgerton and some wine, so I'm a bit bleary today.

Hot again, I walked at Leverett. Next time I must bring water. In these temps, I can't last more than a mile without a drink. I'm really looking forward to the rains promised later in the week.

Gray morning. I did a short yoga session, my first in over a month. It felt good to work my body a bit. No mat or blocks but I think it would help me. Stay anchored in walking and yoga.

Yesterday we went out to Nantasket. It was overcast but the water was warm. Very few people. Foolishly, I didn't swim and then it got chilly. We'll have to go back. It was nice to be on the beach but I still don't feel that rush of joy. But there was salt water and ice cream and a foggy horizon. That's actually how it feels right now. Moving through fog, hoping for land.

It's weird that we're just going to be staying here for the next three weeks. It will really feel like home I suppose. Like Brewster but hopefully not as painful. This is not any place I'd want to end up. Two more weeks of camp, then the four of us together and then Ireland and BHS. Hopefully there will be some progress on our condo in that time. If not, I'm just here.

I started watching the new season of Unforgotten. So good. On Saturday, for some reason, we watched Suicide Squad. It was ultraviolent and not particularly interesting, but somehow they hired good actors. Elba, Capaldi and even Watiti. The best part may have been the folks in the office. And so it goes.

A quote from E. Bear: God is change, and life is about coping with upheaval, and everything melts into the sea. And yet we persist.

Took a long walk on the beach from Linnell Landing to the beginning of the Namskaket Marsh. Then I found a trail and walked back along the marsh to Crosby and then back on the beach to the car. I listened to Levar Burton read the Shirley Jackson story “The Story We Used To Tell”. It was low tide and there were plovers on the sand isles along with the gulls. Cloudy but warm today. Rain is coming.

Last night I started watching Tales from Earthsea which is a Ghibli movie loosely based on the LeGuinn stories. It was entertaining and mysterious. I would like to read those stories again when I get home. By which I mean Brookline.

It has occurred to me that I require a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath house with dining room, mud room, attached garage, attic, basement, porches and patio. Is that too much to ask? Has this sanctuary cursed me?

It has been one year since we were in NYC to see Beetlejuice. Precious time.
