Tempest tossed
May. 31st, 2022 10:59 amBack in the harbor again. The trip to NY was an overall success, though I struggled at the reunion. I wasn't ready for that level of extroversion, so I kept to myself and Steven. It rained most of the day, which was a challenge, but we were OK. We saw the graduates, walked to the falls, visited the Blithewood garden, watched the sunset over the Catskills and the fireworks. The Inn was really great. Large, comfortable and quiet. A big back lawn with a picnic table where we ate every morning. It was also good to be on the edge of the Berkshires, in farm country with forests and fields. Strangely, it didn't remind me of Phoenix Mills so I didn't have any memories to sort through. We went to Chaseholm Farm to get some cheese right at the source. They had a self-service store which was surprising and fun, especially because the stuff was not cheap. The kids and I hiked to Bash Bish falls which was lovely, though crowded. The falls themselves were guarded by the Sheriff and some park service people. Still very dramatic to see and fun to visit this site on the border of two states. We had dinner in Rhinebeck at Foster's. Not a fancy meal, but they had a nice quiet patio and the CarpGotts joined us. I think we should plan a trip to the Berkshires or that corner of NY again. Love the beach but the woods are a different modality of peace. I think since we stopped visiting Cooperstown all the time, I forgot how I enjoyed that environment and the need to incorporate it into our lives.
Short and busy week ahead. Relieved to have the stress of the trip behind me. With all the troubles in the world right now, I have a reduced capacity for turbulence. Now to plan more trips!
