Trip report NYC
Apr. 25th, 2023 08:05 amDH went on a bike ride in the morning. Then we all walked to Central Park. We found a street fair on Lex and had some treats. We walked in the park a bit, climbing the big rock over the pond. Headed back to the street fair for some fresh dumplings, then back to the hotel to change for the show. We did not leave enough time to get to the theater. Dressed quickly but couldn't get a ride (note to self: everyone is getting a taxi to Times Sq. at 1:30 PM!) We finally got a cab at 1:40 and our intrepid driver Kujo made it happen, driving right through the crowds. We ran to the theater and were in our seats in good time. The show was powerful and intense. Ben Platt, divine. Then we met with BIL and SIL(?) for dinner at Junior's(!) which was terrible and perfect at the same time. It had outdoor seating, a roof that held up during the rain storm and we got to sit and talk. We walked them back to Rock then went to the room for an early night. Tragically, the fridge in our room wasn't working and our food spoiled. No cheesecake for Violet.
In the morning. Nihil visited and we packed up. We had bagels and then walked to a great cafe called Eclair. We sat outside and enjoyed the day. Next we got the car and packed up. We drove up to Morningside Heights and got a great free parking spot. We walked around a bit, then decided to sit in the car as there was some anxiety. The Barnard tour was great. They're really made a cloistered place right there in the city. We walked to a pizza place to eat, tried to go to the Hungarian pastry shop but it was packed like Mike's pastry. We saw Tom's Diner, then got in the car north. There was traffic and we ended up getting burritos in Vernon. Home pretty late but we were all well. We made it without major incident.
We were all happy to be home. In our quiet beds, with our own food. I did a good job of organizing the trip, leaving mornings open and giving us time to rest and explore in between the scheduled events. It was good to see family. Good to know that the City is still there for us. Hasta la vista, Ciudad.
